Unless you are looking for work in a field within the defense industry, you probably shouldn’t wear a uniform either. In your profile picture, as in life, you should dress for the job you want. Also, don’t forget to smile.

You can also upload a background picture. Keep this professional as well. Consistent branding will be key to promoting yourself to the people you are trying to reach.

Linkedin bases a lot on your zip code, so make sure to use the place you plan on looking for work. If you are in a small town outside of a major city, it may be a good idea to list the major city rather than your small town.

You can also add websites and other social media accounts. Be sure to use keywords. Keywords are the words that you want to show up for when people search. A medical doctor would want to show up for keywords like “doctor,” “medicine,” and “hospital.” Also, be sure to make a unique public URL (a fancy acronym for web address) for your profile.

Log into your Linkedin account and upload a profile picture and background photo. If you have other websites or content to add, do so now. Create your unique public profile URL.
